Priced from the NAIC state averages, state rate guides and IIHS-HLDI loss results. How the estimate works

How the estimate works
- Your ZIP code determines the state. Our starting point is the state's NAIC average premium (2024).
- Ratios taken from state rate guides scale the figure by your age band and by your driving record.
- Each part changes according to the IIHS-HLDI insurance losses for the car you pick.
- In states that publish insurer prices, the cheapest companies for your profile appear too.

Questions people have
How much does car insurance cost a month?
On the US average, full coverage runs about $134, and liability only runs $68 (NAIC).
Must I share my phone number?
No. It asks for a ZIP code, plus your age band, record, car and coverage. Your answers are the only thing kept, and they stay in your own browser.
Why doesn't my real quote match?
Credit, mileage, garaging and claims history also affect what insurers charge. What you see is a typical price for your profile rather than a quote.
